About Solar Heating (Solar Thermal)
A new day has dawned. Have you seen the light? Solar heating is the sleeping giant of renewable energy. Per dollar installed, it produces two to three times more energy than solar electric (PV) and is just as clean. With current incentives, systems designed to last decades essentially pay for themselves from day one. Once purchased, all the energy produced is yours – free and clear. Join us in our mission to mainstream the clean energy revolution. After all, the best things in life really are free.

What is Solar Thermal (Solar Water Heating or SWH)
- Solar thermal is heat from sunlight
- A solar thermal system is an appliance that converts sunshine into usable heat
- Applications include hot water for domestic use, space heating, pools, spas, and high temperature industrial and commercial applications
- Energy from the sun is free, perfectly clean, and the most abundant source of energy on Earth
- Solar thermal is the most efficient use of the sun’s energy
- Compared to PV (photovoltaics), solar water heating produces 2 to 3 times the energy per dollar invested
How Does Solar Water Heating Work?
- The workhorse of a solar thermal system is the solar thermal panel (collector)
- A solar collector captures the energy of the sun as heat in a circulating fluid within the panel itself
- This heat is then transferred to a tank or “heat reservoir” where it is stored and used for any hot water application
- Typical systems reduce the amount of energy needed to heat water by two-thirds
What Are the Different Applications of Solar Hot Water?
Residential, Commercial, and Industrial Applications and Customers Include:
- Domestic hot water heating
- Pools and spas
- Radiant floor heating
- Recreation centers
- Health clubs
- Laundromats
- Hospitals
- Nursing homes
- Breweries
- Food and beverage processing
- Cosmetic manufacturers
- Health and beauty product manufacturing
- Chemical manufacturers
- Car washes
- Apartment and condominium complexes
- Dairy processing
- Waste processing
- Industrial hot water applications
- Industrial hot fluids applications
If you are a business that heats a lot of water for recreational or industrial applications, the combination of tax incentives and an accelerated depreciation schedule can pay for your system in less than five years. Solar hot water will give you a competitive edge now, and for decades to come.
What Type of System is Right for Me?
There are many types of solar systems available for any size project. Our experienced sales force will work with you and our in-house engineering staff to tailor-design a system that fits your specific energy needs:
Commercial clients
Industrial clients
Homeowners
Why Should I Invest in Solar Thermal?
The Simple Reason is the Peace of Mind That Comes from Bing Solar Savvy
Economic:
- A typical system reduces the cost of conventional energy used to heat water for any application by two-thirds
- Hot water usage is the second largest energy consumer in American households averaging 15- 30 gallons per person per day (Arizona Solar Center)
- Solar water heating produces 2 to 3 times the amount of energy per dollar than PV (photovoltaics)
Environmental:
- Solar hot water (SWH) systems are absolutely pollution free
- Climate change and degradation means the days of cheap, carefree energy are over.
- Solar energy is 100% emission-free, silent, and one of the best things you can do to reduce your carbon footprint right now
- Solar thermal is an investment your children and grandchildren will thank you for
National Security:
The use of solar thermal will reduce our dependence on foreign sources of natural gas and oil by using energy produced close to home
Solar thermal will help protect our national heritage by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and limiting the effect of climate change on our own natural wonders
How Can Novan Meet my Hot Water and Space Heating Needs?
We use collectors manufactured by SunEarth for our flat plate thermal applications. Novan is the distributor in the Colorado region for these highly efficient, SRCC-certified collectors.
- Our in-house engineering and installation staff provides a single source capability for solar thermal (SWH) systems
- Our standard and custom hot water storage tanks range in size from 80 to more than 5,000 gallons
- Pre-fabrication of many system components in our manufacturing facility helps to control project costs
NovaMax Solar Storage Tanks: We build standard and custom hot water storage tanks in sizes from 80 to more than 5,000 gallons and this together with the pre-fabrication of many system components in our manufacturing facility helps to control project costs.
What About Third-Party Arrangements?
- For large installations (100+ panels), a third-party energy provider finances the cost of the installation of your or solar thermal (SHW) system on your property at zero cost to you
- The third-party then sells you the electricity or heat produced from the system at a fixed rate for a period of time agreed upon by both parties (usually 10 to 15 years)
- At the end of your contract, you will have the option to renew or purchase the system at a nominal cost and enjoy free electricity or heat for decades to come
Why Should I Choose Novan?
At Novan, Customer Service Comes First
